CELL PHONES FOR LIFE, INC.
PROVIDING EMERGENCY USE CELL PHONES FOR THE ELDERLY, DISABLED, & BATTERED WOMEN'S SHELTERS
WELCOME TO CELL PHONES FOR LIFE, INC.
In the U.S., cell phone use has surged from 340,000 subscribers in 1985 to over 182 million in 2004. In 2007 the worldwide total number of cell-phone subscribers will exceed two billion. Most cell phones have an average life span of only 18 months causing millions to end up in landfills every year. Not only is this a burden on landfill space, but also cell phones contain hazardous materials. If improperly disposed of, the hazardous materials can leak out and contaminate soil and groundwater.
Did you know that cell phones contain toxic materials such as arsenic, lead and zinc?
Cell phone recycling keeps valuable materials out of landfills, including an estimated $630,000 of precious metals from circut boards, and enough copper from phone chargers to recover the statue of liberty, twice.
Donate used or broken cell phones
The cell phones stashed away in your closets or drawers have real value. To some, these cell phones offer an opportunity to communicate in away that they never have. Cell Phones for Life provides peace of mind to countless elderly, disabled, and abused women, but many of the phones are not functional and so are recycled. From January 2007 to September 2007, Cell Phones for Life has recycled over 4,000 phones.
Together we can make a difference!
